IPL Auction 2019
The IPL auction has been very interesting and has thrown up many surprises throughout these years. Many domestic cricketers, who never dreamed of such success, have been living their dreams since the inception of the IPL. They have got a beautiful platform to showcase their talent and press for inclusion in the National team.
Let’s talk about the last year IPL, some players were able to garner a huge salary and have also been able to make a name for them. Who can forget the price offered for Dinesh Karthik in the last auction or for Jaydev Unadkat in the last IPL auction? Unadkat was purchased by Rajasthan Royals for 11.5 crore. RR sold him and re-bid for him this year for 8.4 crore. He is the joint richest cricketer this season. Unadkat was always on the radar of many teams looking for a good bowler.
But what really made heads turn was the huge demand for uncapped players. Varun Chakaravarthy and Shivam Dube fetched millions in the bids for the 2019 IPL. Varun Chakaravarthy of Tamil Nadu with a base price of just 20 lakh was bought by KXIP and bagged a whopping Rs. 8.4 crore. On the other hand, Dubey with the same base price bagged Rs. 5 crore and will be playing for RCB.
Among the other Indian players to be sold were Axar Patel, and Mohit Sharma for Rs.5 crore each. While Patel was bought by DC, Sharma was bought by CSK. Mohammed Shami was rewarded for his latest exploits in Australia and was bought for Rs. 4.8 crore and will be seen in KXIP colours. RR bought Varun Aaron for 2.4 crore. Ishant Sharma was sold to Deccan Chargers for Rs. 1.1 crore. Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was bought by SRH for Rs. 1.2 crore, while RCB bought Gurkeerat Singh Mann at his base price of Rs. 50 lakh.
Among the foreign players to be sold were England’s Sam Curran to KXIP for Rs.7.2 crore, Colin Ingram of South Africa was sold to DC for Rs. 6.4 crore. Carlos Brathwaite from West Indies was bought by KKR for Rs.5 crore, while his teammates Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer went to KXIP and RCB respectively for Rs. 4.2 crore each. Barinder Sran was also sold for Rs. 3.4 crore to MI. RCB were able to make an interesting purchase by getting South Africa’s Henrich Klassen at his base price of just Rs.50 lakh. Klaseen is known for his hard hitting.
